Medallion hardly needs an introduction - he was by the world-renowned Danish stallion May Sherif, who was the sire of more than half a dozen international Grand Prix horses including Matador and Andiamo, both World Cup winners. Andiamo, ridden by Sven Rothenburger, was also an Olympic team Gold Medallist and Matador, with Kyra Kyrklund, was an Olympic individual medallist. As well as being the only stallion to sire more than two World Cup Freestyle champions, May Sherif is also recognised for his ability to pass on to his progeny wonderful activity and a special talent for piaffe and passage. We are pleased to say that Medallion, in turn, passes these traits onto his youngsters.
Medallion's dam line was also truly amazing, as it included a long line of internationally successful dressage horses. Medallion's dam Catherston Desert Gold was by Dutch Gold, one of the leading dressage horses in Britain and who represented England at the World Championships and Olympics with Jennifer Loriston-Clarke. Dutch Gold was in turn by the famous Dutch Courage, the World Bronze Medal Dressage horse and sire of Graded stallions and mares as well as International Dressage horses, Show Jumpers and Eventers. Desert Gold competed Medium level dressage and was from Catherston Lonely Breeze. Catherston Lonely Breeze was Champion Small Hack of the Year at the Horse of the Year Show at Wembley as well as winning at dressage and in the Show ring as a brood mare. Her sire, Xenocles was a Grand Prix Dressage Horse and an Advanced Eventer, while her dam, Desert Storm was also a champion Hack winning the overall Hack of the Year at the HOYS and was short-listed for the Mexico Olympics as a Grand Prix Dressage Horse
Medallion commenced his dressage career with Heath Ryan and was a top FEI competitor on the East Coast, competing at Grand Prix with scores over 66%. Yet more proof that top bloodlines do produce top performers.
Medallion is himself is the sire of hundreds of Olympic discipline competition horses. It is not unusual to see him represented at State and National Dressage Competitions by up to ten offspring. His progeny include Glenhaven Montana, Mauritius, Gracefield Fabian, Byalee Magic, Moscow and Glencoe Manhattan (all FEI Dressage), Chantry Monaco, Minstrel, and Blue Medallion. Medallion is also well represented in show jumping and eventing, which is to be expected considering his pedigree.
Medallion youngsters are also doing very well in the show ring - Medallion's progeny are eligible to be registered as Arabian Warmbloods, and many are being recognised for their floating movement and stunning looks. Coachwood Mayfly and Mayhem, bred by Andrew Buckley, have won too many championships to mention, and Opal Park Moonshadow, Opal Park Matinee, Robri Spirit, Richmeed Mercedes, and Dasimle Mandela have all won or placed at the NSW AWHA Gala Days and Sydney Royal.
